Calibration of walnuts is a stage that cannot be neglected in the industrial processing of walnuts and beyond. Calibration is required in any nut orchards and at any nut processing enterprise – walnut, hazelnut, almond, etc.
Calibrating the walnut in the shell is sorting the walnut by size from smallest to largest. Graded walnuts are in greater demand when sold to processors, exporters, or retail chains of grocery stores.
Also, a sorted walnut is needed when processing a nut into a kernel, as it allows for precise adjustment of the nutcracker to the size of the walnut, which as a result leads to an increased yield of the whole kernel.
When calibrating a walnut in the shell, it is possible to obtain up to 80% of the whole kernel during processing, which is a rather high indicator.
Walnut calibration in small enterprises can be performed in linear calibrators, their advantage is compact size and flexible settings for any type of nut.
In industrial gardens or large enterprises, walnuts are calibrated in rotary (drum) calibrators.
The rotary calibrator performs the most accurate walnut calibration in large volumes. It has fixed hole sizes and, depending on the request, the rotary calibrator can be made for walnut or hazelnut.
With industrial volumes of walnuts, it is impossible to do without calibration and calibration equipment. After all, neglecting this process reduces the value of the walnut when sold and reduces the yield of the whole kernel during processing.
